Corporate Secretary and Director for Governance, External Affairs & Compliance
Rafael Canare has spent more than fifteen years at the intersection of trade-organization management, international business development, and public relations, experience he now applies to AGPI’s corporate governance, external affairs, and regulatory compliance. His work has consistently centered on one constituency: entrepreneurs, particularly those in the MSME sector, franchisors, and community-based business leaders.
A foundation built across industries
Rafael’s entrepreneurial path began within his family’s businesses, where he took on progressively senior roles, including Managing Partner at Orange Courier, General Manager at Eoconomous Microfinance, and Operations Manager at Josephino School Transport. He went on to found and lead ventures of his own, including Cloud Meals Santa Rosa and Vigoro Business Solutions, and served as Livelihood Adviser to the City Government of Cabuyao.
Industry leadership
Alongside his position at AGPI, Rafael serves as President of Canvela Organizational Management, sits on the board of an international holding company based in Singapore, and holds the Vice Presidency for Government Affairs at the Philippine E-Commerce Association (PECA). He is also a co-founder of the EComm Thrive Asia Movement and a member of both the World Trade Center Club and the Financial Executives of the Philippines (FINEX).
His most extensive tenure was as First Executive Director and COO of the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. (AFFI) from 2009 to 2021, where he managed daily operations, represented the association before government bodies, and served for fifteen years as Event Director of the annual Filipino Franchise Show, drawing 25,000 attendees each year. He also directed the 2017 ASEAN CEO Franchisers Conference and the first Franchisees Conference held at the World Trade Center, and completed the Certified Professional Association Executive Program in 2021.
Governance at AGPI
As Corporate Secretary and Director for Governance, External Affairs and Compliance, Rafael is responsible for AGPI’s compliance calendar, board documentation, external stakeholder relationships, and regulatory standing with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority. Outside his professional work, he is a published author of haiku collections, including “Under the Moon” and “Under the Sweet Rain,” a creative counterpart to a career built on precision and structure.
